992. best for last | brooke

We’re on the home stretch to coffee cup 1000, and we’re celebrating with some of our most active contributors. My caffeinated friends have made this journey more fun than I ever could have imagined. Thank you for joining me, all of you. I owe each of you a favor, or five…think about it and we’ll talk about it over a cup of coffee.

First up, Brooke Appler from Oakland CA. I met Brooke at a family Christmas dinner and we discovered we both loved blogging, coffee, crafts and yet-to-be born Baby Avery. Avery has celebrated his first birthday and Brooke has contributed 30 cups of coffee to Coffee|Served Daily. That would be Numbers 226, 227, 228, 229, 230, 231,251 261, 264,265, 268, 269, 276, 277, 313, 415, 416, 446, 511, 512 , 525 ,529, 543 , 607, 749, 782, 794, 889, 920, and 964.

“i didn’t make it to coffee yesterday but i took a shot of beloved homer this morning when i got to work. coffee in the pink cannister is philz and i’m sooo happy they open at 6a and add my cream and sugar so i don’t have to deal with that when i’m barely awake!”

Brooke’s illustration blog Miss U, Love U, and her Etsy shop is Team Blue Bicycle. And of course, her Flickr photostream is here and her  portfolio here.

990-991. an afternoon tra vigne

Easter brunch at Tra Vigne in St. Helena in Napa Valley. Celebrated Alex and Ian’s future at Oregon State and Tufts…we all agreed that the Mozzarella Cheese “Al  Minuto” was life changing. It was really, really wonderful. The rest of our meal was delicious…but that cheese, made just that moment, was just incredible. This is the end of our regularly scheduled programming…we’re not to 1000 yet, but we have something special planned for the grand finale. Come back tomorrow…In the meantime, I wonder if I can do a 1000 days of cheese blog?

989. just coffee, please

Evan’s coffee at Tra Vigne. I have no idea how Ian ended up in his spoon. I didn’t do it on purpose, really.

987-988. tupelo for two (or three)

Tupelo Coffee House in Sacramento with Diane and Melanie, brainstorming girl power and all that good stuff. I do believe there is a palm tree in Melanie’s cup (not that I am easily distracted by coffee or anything).

986. your future here

Tonya Russ Price, Charlotte, NC.

Tonya is a wedding photographer with two blogs, Poprock Photography (weddings)  and Biscuit Fan Club (food). I am pretty sure her future will include a trip to Northern California to visit me. We have some coffee catching up to do.

985. cup in hiding

This was my grandmother’s garden seat. There were two, and they were always on her patio. In white.

I was the only one who wanted them, and immediately painted them purple and set them in the corner of the garden for my daughters. I imagined tea parties, but they really aren’t all that comfortable, even for a child. Last year I repainted them bright yellow, except I didn’t use primer. It wasn’t good. At all. This year I moved them to a new spot, invested in primer and painted them sage green, to match everything else in my life. Much better. The coffee agrees, because it can hide there and enjoy the quiet of the yard, all by itself. I hope Grandma Jessie approves.

984. sneaking another

I’m not really sneaking it in, even though it’s 2:30 pm. I am just making up for the coffee I missed earlier in the week when I pretended to be cutting back (I intended to, it just wasn’t a good idea…at all). Steve joined me, so I wouldn’t have to feel guilty.

982. when in denmark

Andrea Vestergaard, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Andrea is my fourth daughter.  You already know about Kate and Alex…Margot, our next door neighbor (who is now a grown up grad student in Maine) is my third. Andrea was an exchange student who became Alex’s BFF last year, and she’s my fourth. She loved salsa, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and coffee. She fit right in!

“My daily pleasure! A coffee shot just before it gets poured in the cup of skimmed milk. The best milk skimmer on the market is in my opinion the one from Ikea!”

981. laverne

Let me be clear, Laverne and I are not friends. She is the neighborhood cat who began visiting us last summer. She started by simply startling me (and giving me the heebie jeebies every time). Then she tried to make things better by bringing us freshly killed mice. I think she brought us about 8 in one week. Sometimes still moving. Now she just hangs out here, and shows up every time I am in the yard. I have no idea why she bothers me so much. She’s about the same size as our old cat, Mocha (who I kind of loved). She is a fine, designery and somewhat aesthetically pleasing color of black…but she just annoys the heck out of me. After last week’s rain I went out to check the garden, and there she was…in my coffee picture! At least she had the good sense to pose.
